Your safety is part of the service

Safety instructions and terms of service

Our technicians apply products registered with the Ministry of Health, in controlled doses and using approved methods. Even so, no pesticide is harmless: that is why these instructions exist. Following them is how the product does its job against pests while keeping the risk to your family and pets to a minimum.

Issued in compliance with Executive Decree No. 38335-S-MTSS, the Regulation Governing Pest Control Activities (Reglamento para Regular la Actividad de Control de Plagas) of Costa Rica's Ministry of Health and Ministry of Labor and Social Security.

Re-entry time

After the application, the product needs time to settle and dry. Respecting this period is the most important safety measure of the entire service.

Standard service
2hours before re-entering

Applies to most residential and commercial services. Count the time from when the technician declares the application finished.

Severe infestation
4hours before re-entering

When the pest problem is serious, our technicians apply a larger amount of product than usual because the level of infestation requires it. In these cases the waiting time doubles, and the technician will tell you so explicitly on site and on the service sheet.

When you re-enter, we recommend opening doors and windows for 15 to 30 minutes to air out the space, and washing any surface where food is prepared or served with soap and water before using it.

During the application: no one inside the treated areas

As our policy, no one may remain in the areas while the product is being applied or during the re-entry time. We take special care with those we most want to protect:

Babies and children

Their respiratory system is still developing. They must leave the areas before the work begins and return only once the re-entry time has passed.

Older adults

They deserve twice the care. Let's arrange together a comfortable space outside the treated areas for the duration of the service and the waiting time.

People with asthma or allergies

If anyone in your home has asthma, rhinitis or allergies, let us know when you book and keep them away until the re-entry time has passed and the space has been aired out.

Pregnant women

As an additional precaution, we recommend that they not be present during the application or the waiting period.

Your pets are family too

Keep them out of the treated areas during the service and for the entire re-entry time. They walk on, sniff and lick surfaces, which is why we look after them separately.

Dogs

Take them to an untreated yard, to a neighbor's or out for a walk. Remove their beds, toys and food and water bowls before the application.

Cats

Keep them in a carrier or in a room that will not be treated. They clean their fur with their tongue, so keep them from walking on damp areas.

Fish and aquariums

If you cannot move the aquarium, cover it completely with plastic and turn off the air pump or filter during the application and the re-entry time: the air pump can draw product into the water.

Before and after the service

Five minutes of preparation make the difference. This is all we ask of you:

Before the application

  • Put away or cover food, kitchen utensils and dishes.
  • Remove children's toys, pacifiers and baby items from the areas to be treated.
  • Take out pet beds, bowls and toys.
  • Cover fish tanks and turn off air pumps and filters.
  • Tell the technician if there are babies, older adults, or people with asthma or allergies, or who are pregnant, in the home.
  • Make sure all people and pets leave the areas before the work begins.

When you re-enter (once the time has passed)

  • Open doors and windows for 15 to 30 minutes to air out the space.
  • Wash surfaces where you prepare or serve food with soap and water.
  • Do not touch corners or baseboards that are still damp; let them dry completely.
  • Do not mop or wipe baseboards and skirting in the following days, so you do not remove the product and it stays effective.
  • Wash your hands after putting your things back in place.

What if someone feels unwell?

When re-entry times and ventilation are respected, discomfort is uncommon. But if, after the service, anyone has dizziness, nausea, a persistent headache or irritation of the eyes, skin or throat, take them outdoors and seek medical advice immediately. Keep these contacts at hand:

Terms and conditions of service

The above in plain language; the same, in the formal wording that protects both parties.

1.Service provider

The service is provided by Fumigadora EcoPlagas (800-Fumigar), a company holding a Health Operating Permit (Permiso Sanitario de Funcionamiento) from the Ministry of Health, with a licensed chemical supervisor (regencia química) and trained technical staff, in accordance with Executive Decree No. 38335-S-MTSS. The products used hold a current sanitary registration with Costa Rica's Ministry of Health and are applied according to the specifications on their label and leaflet.

2.Information for the customer

In compliance with articles 13 and 16.8 of the aforementioned regulation, EcoPlagas provides the customer, through this document and the service sheet delivered at the end of each job, with instructions for the protection of people, domestic animals, food and property, including the re-entry periods for the treated areas. The customer declares that they know and accept these instructions by contracting and receiving the service.

3.Obligations of the customer and occupants

  • Remove all people and domestic animals from the areas to be treated before the application begins and for the entire re-entry period.
  • Respect the re-entry period of 2 hours, or 4 hours when the technician indicates that the pest condition required a reinforced application.
  • Prevent access by babies, children, older adults, pregnant women and people with asthma, allergies or respiratory conditions until the re-entry period and ventilation are complete.
  • Keep dogs, cats, birds, fish and other animals out of the treated areas; cover aquariums and turn off their aeration systems.
  • Protect or remove food, utensils and personal items from the areas to be treated.
  • Inform EcoPlagas in advance of any relevant health condition of the occupants (asthma, allergies, pregnancy, advanced age or others) so the work plan can be adjusted.
  • Follow any specific instructions the technician gives on site or records on the service sheet.

4.Re-entry periods

The standard re-entry period is 2 hours from the end of the application. When the severity of the infestation requires a higher dosage than usual, the period will be 4 hours; this condition will be communicated by the technician on site and recorded on the service sheet. The periods may be extended if the label of the product applied so requires, and the longer period always prevails.

5.Liability

EcoPlagas is responsible for the correct application of the products in accordance with their sanitary registration, label and current regulations. Any failure by the customer or occupants to comply with the instructions in this document and on the service sheet, in particular early re-entry into the treated areas, the presence of people or animals during the application, or the omission of information about relevant health conditions, is at their sole expense and risk, and releases EcoPlagas from liability for any damage or harm resulting from that failure to comply.

6.Incident response

In the event of any discomfort or suspected reaction, the customer must follow the instructions in the emergencies section of this document and contact EcoPlagas, which will immediately provide the name of the product applied and its safety data sheet (MSDS) for medical staff. This assistance does not constitute an acknowledgment of liability.

Acceptance: contracting the service, receiving it or signing the service sheet constitutes acceptance of these safety instructions and terms of service. Our commitment has been the same for years: to control the pest and care for your family as if it were our own.
