Districts we serve

All six districts of Santa Ana: Santa Ana (downtown), Pozos (home to the Lindora corridor), Salitral, Uruca, Piedades and Brasil.

On the same route we cover Escazú, Ciudad Colón and the corridor along the highway to Caldera.

The driest canton in the west

Santa Ana is lower and more sheltered than Escazú, and it has a long, pronounced dry season, from December to April, with strong wind and soil that dries out. It is a microclimate noticeably different from its next-door neighbor, even though only ten minutes of road separate them.

That difference shows in the work. In Escazú, the damp, wooded hillside dominates; in Santa Ana, it is dry heat, stone and pasture. The three pests we treat most here come straight from those conditions.

Scorpions: why they are a separate issue here

Scorpions find everything they need in Santa Ana: a stable warm temperature, stone shelters and plenty of insects to feed on. The stone walls, retaining walls, gabions and stone fences found all over the canton are daytime shelter; pastures and leaf litter complete the picture.

There is a seasonal pattern worth knowing: during the dry season they gather in damp shelters, and with the first rains in May they come out of the ground, and that is when they get into homes the most. If you are going to do a preventive treatment, that is the logical time, not August.

Effective treatment targets the perimeter and the shelters: stone walls, the base of perimeter walls, planters, woodpiles and the entire exterior baseboard, plus sealing the gaps where they get in. See scorpion control and prevention at home.

Stables, pastures, fleas and ticks

Santa Ana keeps something almost no other canton in the west preserves on this scale: farms, stables and pasture lots side by side with housing developments and condos. It is part of the canton’s identity and also the reason for a very frequent request here.

Ticks live in tall grass and pasture. The dog goes for a walk, picks them up and brings them into the house; there they complete their cycle in rugs, beds and floor cracks. Fleas do something similar. And the key point: treating the animal without treating the environment solves half the problem, because most of the population, eggs and immature stages, is not on the pet but on the floor, in the garden and along the baseboard.

That is why the service combines the interior with the perimeter and garden. Details are on the fleas and ticks page.

Drywood termites

Santa Ana’s dry climate favors termite species that live inside wood with no need for contact with soil or moisture. They attack beams, door and window frames, wood floors, closets and furniture, and they are especially common in the canton’s homes with wood finishes.

The sign is distinctive and easy to recognize if you know what to look for: small piles of very fine sawdust, the size of ground coffee granules, that come back every time you clean them up, under a piece of furniture, a frame or a beam. That is not dust: it is what the termites push out of their galleries.

The treatment is not the same as for subterranean termites, so identification matters. The termites page and how to identify termites explain the difference.

Lindora: offices, restaurants and construction sites

The Lindora corridor, in the Pozos district, concentrates offices, shopping centers and a high density of restaurants, and all of it sits next to construction lots and overgrown land.

That creates a very specific effect we see again and again: when earthmoving starts on a lot, the rodents that lived there do not disappear, they move into the neighboring businesses and condos. If construction started next door and you suddenly began seeing activity, that is usually the explanation, and the right response is to reinforce the perimeter before they get in, not to wait until they are inside. See rodent control.

For restaurants and food businesses there is also the paperwork the health inspection asks for: report, log, technical data sheets and work under the supervision of a licensed chemist. It is explained in health inspections at food businesses.

How a visit works in Santa Ana

  • Here the outside matters more than the inside. Properties tend to have land and gardens, and the canton’s three main pests come in from outside. Most of the treatment goes to the perimeter, stone walls, planters, woodpiles and the equipment room.
  • Pets and garden. Before the visit, it helps to move animals out of the area, pick up food bowls and toys, and let us know if there are horses or a corral, because that changes the application plan.
  • Condos in Lindora and Pozos, with prior authorization. Entry is coordinated with the property management and the gate; when you book we ask for the resident’s name and house number.
  • Prevention before the first rains. For scorpions, the treatment works best if it is done before or right at the start of the rainy season, which is when they move.
  • Who shows up. A trained, uniformed technician, green-label products and a service report.

Frequently asked questions about pest control in Santa Ana

Do you charge a travel fee to Santa Ana?
No. Downtown Santa Ana, Pozos, Lindora, Salitral, Uruca, Piedades and Brasil are within the Greater Metropolitan Area and there is no travel fee. The price is the published one: house up to 100 m² ₡39,900, up to 200 m² ₡49,900 and over 200 m² ₡59,900, VAT included.
How soon can you get to Santa Ana?
The date is confirmed on WhatsApp in under an hour. Our office is in Guachipelín de Escazú, right by the Próspero Fernández highway: Lindora, Pozos and downtown Santa Ana are 10 to 20 minutes away, and Salitral, Piedades and Brasil about 25 or 30. It is one of the areas we reach fastest. We work 24 hours a day, every day.
What is the most common pest in Santa Ana?
Scorpions. The canton’s dry, warm climate, stone walls, gabions and pastures give them shelter all year, and the first rains in May are when they come into homes the most. Next come ticks and fleas, because homes sit alongside stables and pastures, and drywood termites in homes with wood finishes.
When is the best time for preventive scorpion treatment in Santa Ana?
Before or at the start of the first rains, between April and May, which is when they leave the shelters where they spent the dry season. The treatment is around the perimeter: stone walls, the base of perimeter walls, planters, woodpiles and the exterior baseboard. If you have not fumigated in the last 6 months, it takes two applications and the second one is charged; the 30-day check only applies once the plan is complete.
