Districts we serve
All five districts of the central canton of Heredia: Heredia (the urban core), Mercedes, San Francisco, Ulloa (Barreal, Lagunilla) and Varablanca, which sits up high on the slopes of Poás.
On the same route we serve the neighboring cantons that people also call "Heredia": Santo Domingo, San Rafael, Barva, San Pablo, San Isidro, Flores and Belén.
Three areas, three pest lists
Heredia is one of the cantons in the Greater Metropolitan Area where it makes the least sense to talk about the canton as a whole. In fifteen kilometers it goes from dense urban core to industrial park, and from there to coffee farms and cloud forest. What gets into your house depends on which of the three you live in.
1. Urban core: downtown and Mercedes
Shops, sodas (small local eateries) and a high density of apartments and rental rooms because of the Universidad Nacional. That tenant turnover is the way in: German cockroaches and bed bugs do not walk in from the street, they arrive inside furniture, used mattresses and moving boxes. We see it rise in December and at the change of semester.
2. The flat corridor: San Francisco and Ulloa
Barreal and Lagunilla are an area of warehouses, offices, free trade zones and distribution centers, right next to Belén and the Río Segundo corridor. Here the issue is rodents and flies, and the requirement is paperwork: audits, logs and numbered stations.
3. The edge of the coffee farms and the mountains
The upper part of San Francisco, the border with Barva and San Rafael, and Varablanca. Moisture, wood, easy-to-reach attics: dampwood termites and ants.
The coffee farm matters more than you think
Heredia is still coffee country, and a coffee farm is a stable ecosystem: shade, a permanent layer of leaf litter, moisture and food. It supports ant colonies and field mouse populations that live there without bothering anyone.
The problem starts when that ecosystem is disturbed. With pruning, with the harvest between November and February, with spraying on the crop or when a housing project opens up on the coffee farm, whatever lived inside moves toward the edge. And the houses are on the edge.
That is why, on properties bordering a coffee farm or a tree line, the treatment focuses more outside than inside: the exterior baseboard, the perimeter wall, planters against the wall and the spot where the garden meets the building. If you have already seen ant trails coming in through the wall, the article on ant trails explains how to read them before applying anything.
San Francisco and Ulloa: warehouses and free trade zones
In warehouses and distribution centers, rodents and cockroaches are almost never born there: they arrive on pallets, in corrugated cardboard and in containers. It is transport, not spontaneous generation. That defines where we work: the receiving dock, the perimeter, the trash room and the shelving lines, more than the offices.
For regulated clients we deliver the package the audit asks for: a map with numbered stations, a dated inspection log, technical data sheets and safety data sheets, and a report signed under the supervision of a licensed chemist. If you are required to have a written plan, it is explained in the article on Decree 37308-S.
Varablanca: another canton, almost another country
Varablanca sits far above the rest of Heredia, in an area of almost daily rain and low temperatures. Nobody calls about mosquitoes there: there is structural moisture, wood that never fully dries and dampwood termites.
How a visit works in Heredia
- Scheduled by corridor. Appointments are grouped along Route 3 and the Santa Rosa corridor, because rush hour traffic between downtown Heredia and Ulloa decides how many visits fit in a day.
- Free trade zones and warehouses need advance coordination. Entry through security, an induction briefing at some plants and dock hours. This is confirmed with the manager beforehand, not at the gate.
- Downtown businesses, after hours. At sodas, restaurants and food businesses we can work at night or before opening, so no food is exposed and service is not interrupted.
- Varablanca goes in the northern block. The route is long and is coordinated together with the rest of the appointments on that climb.
- Who shows up. A trained, uniformed technician, green-label products and a service report. The scope is put in writing in your quote.
