Districts we serve
Aserrí, Tarbaca, Vuelta de Jorco, San Gabriel, Legua, Monterrey and Salitrillos. We also cover Desamparados and Alajuelita.
Which pests show up in each area
1. The town center and Salitrillos
Neighborhood homes and shops: cockroaches, rodents and ants.
2. Farms and homes with land
Pasture, chicken coops and tool sheds: rodents, flies and scorpions in firewood and stacked materials.
3. Tarbaca and the higher ground
Cold and damp: dampwood termites in beams and frames.
Scorpions in the firewood
Scorpions live where they find dry shelter and food: stacked firewood, concrete blocks, stored roof tiles. We treat the perimeter and the cracks they come in through, and we show the customer how to stack things so they don't give them a home.

How the visit works in Aserrí
- Everything comes in on Route 209. Route 209, which climbs up from Desamparados, is the only practical way in, and it is packed from 6 to 8 in the morning and from 4 to 7 in the afternoon. Appointments in Aserrí centro and Salitrillos are set for mid-morning or early afternoon, when the road is clear.
- Tarbaca, San Gabriel and La Legua go in the same block. Driving up into the hills takes longer than reaching the center, so those appointments are grouped into a single trip up. When you write to us, tell us your district and a landmark, not just "Aserrí".
- Aserrí is scheduled in the southern block, together with Desamparados.
- Farms: we ask to see the shed, the chicken coop and the firewood, because that is where the problem starts.
- Photo report and recommendations for your property.
- Who shows up. A trained, uniformed technician in a marked vehicle, green-label product, photo report. 30-day check once the plan is complete, with conditions.
The climb to Tarbaca: from the neighborhood to the hills
Aserrí centro sits at about 1,300 meters, and Tarbaca rises above 1,600 within a few kilometers of road. That difference in altitude changes the list of pests more than anything else in the canton. Down below, in the center, in Poás de Aserrí and in Salitrillos, the homes are neighborhood houses, built wall to wall, with a shop on the corner. There the problem is the same as in all of southern San José: German cockroaches in the kitchen and rats running through the attic space shared with the neighbor.
As you climb toward Tarbaca, San Gabriel and La Legua, the canton turns into farms, high-altitude coffee and forest. The temperature drops, the humidity rises, and you start to see dampwood termites in beams and frames, and field mice coming into the house when the harvest ends. Vuelta de Jorco, at the bottom of the Jorco River valley, is warmer and has mosquitoes again in the rainy season.
That is why the first question when we quote is which part of the canton your house is in. It is not the same visit or the same product.
Yard dogs, fleas and ticks
In Aserrí almost every house with a yard has a dog, and many have more than one, loose in the yard and sleeping on the porch. That combination of dog, grass, dirt and shade is exactly what fleas need to complete their life cycle. The animal is treated by the vet, but the eggs and larvae are on the porch floor, in the cracks in the concrete, under the furniture where the dog sleeps and in the dirt of the yard.
Flea treatment covers indoors and outdoors in the same visit and requires the dog to be dewormed around those days, because otherwise reinfestation is a matter of weeks. If you have questions about how the application is handled with animals in the house, the article is fumigation safe for pets explains what gets taken out, what gets covered and when they can come back in.
What changes in Aserrí when the rains start
From May to November the canton gets heavy afternoon downpours that run down the slopes toward the center. Whatever was living quietly in the ditch, the brush and the stacked firewood looks for dry shelter, and the house is the closest one. In those months we get more calls about ants in the kitchen, scorpions in the laundry room and rats coming in at night.
Two things help more than any product: keeping firewood and building materials away from the wall of the house, and making sure the yard drain doesn't get clogged with leaves. The rest, with a perimeter treatment and rodent stations, holds up well until the dry season. In rainy season pests you'll find the full list of what moves with the rain and why.
