Districts we serve

San Joaquín, Barrantes and Llorente. On the same route we serve Belén, Santa Bárbara and the Ulloa area.

Which pests get in, area by area

1. San Joaquín, the town center

Neighborhood homes and shops: cockroaches, rodents and ants.

2. Condos in Barrantes and Llorente

New houses with a garden and pets: fleas, cockroaches in the kitchen and termites in furniture.

3. Warehouses and workshops toward Belén

Rodents and cockroaches that come in with the merchandise; numbered stations and a log for clients who need them.

New houses get pests too

A condo just built on what used to be a coffee farm or pasture inherits the land’s wildlife. The first rains after construction push ants and rodents toward the houses. In Flores, most calls from new homeowners are exactly that, and they are solved with perimeter treatment and stations.

How a visit works in Flores

  • Route 3 sets the time. San Joaquín sits on the old road between Heredia and Alajuela, and from 6 to 8 in the morning and after 4 in the afternoon the line of traffic through the center is long. Appointments are set between 9 and 3, when you can cross the canton in minutes.
  • Barrantes and Llorente are served on the same round. The canton is so small that one technician covers all three districts in a single block, together with Belén and Santa Bárbara.
  • Flores is scheduled with Belén and Santa Bárbara in the western block.
  • Condos: coordinated with the guardhouse.
  • Report with photos and the station inspection date.
  • Who shows up. A trained, uniformed technician in a branded vehicle, green-label products and a report with photos. 30-day check once the plan is complete, with conditions.

A flat, low canton: mosquitoes are the rainy season call

Flores is the smallest canton in the country and one of the flattest in the Central Valley. It sits at about 1,000 meters, quite a bit lower than downtown Heredia, and the land does not drain strongly in any direction. When the rains come, between May and November, water collects in clogged gutters, in the bucket in the yard, in plant saucers and in the old tire behind the shed. That is a mosquito breeding site, and Flores shares the same lowland dengue pressure as Belén and Alajuela.

Mosquito treatment has two parts, and only the homeowner can do the second one: we apply where adults rest, in shaded foliage, under the eaves and in the laundry area, and you get rid of the standing water. Without that part, in ten days it is the same as before. Details on what to check in your yard are in rainy season pests in Costa Rica.

Drywood termites in new furniture

In the condos of Barrantes and Llorente, termite calls are almost never structural. The house is new, made of block and concrete, and the termite that shows up is the drywood kind that arrived inside a piece of furniture: the bed, the wardrobe, a picture frame, a wooden door bought untreated. The sign is a small pile of fine dust, like sand, under the furniture or in a corner of the frame.

That termite is treated in the furniture and nearby wood, by injection at the active points, and it does not require treating the whole house. The inspection is free and exists precisely so we do not charge you for a full treatment when what you have is one infested wardrobe. If you want to check before calling, how to tell if your house has termites explains the signs of each type.

Along Route 3: shops, workshops and traffic

Much of Flores’s commerce sits along Route 3 and in downtown San Joaquín: sodas, bakeries, workshops and small warehouses serving Belén and the Ulloa industrial area. In those businesses pests come in with merchandise and cardboard, and what the Ministry of Health asks for is proof of control: numbered stations, a visit log and an up-to-date certificate.

At sodas and bakeries we apply outside business hours, before opening or after closing, so no product is exposed and the business does not have to close. For clients who need a monthly visit we set up a scheduled plan with a fixed date and the report that is handed to the inspector.
