Cold, fog and closed-up homes

El Tejar sits in the same valley as downtown Cartago and shares its climate: cool for much of the year, frequent fog and rain from May to November that tends to come as long drizzle rather than downpours. As you climb through San Isidro along the southern Inter-American Highway, temperatures drop even further.

With that cold, homes stay shut, and pests look for the warm spots. Mice move into the attic, the storeroom and the laundry area. Cockroaches hide in the refrigerator motor, behind the stove, inside the microwave and in any appliance that stays warm.

Rats and mice: from pasture to attic

In Tobosi, San Isidro and Patio de Agua, homes border pasture, crops or overgrown lots. The field mouse lives outdoors while it has food and cover, and comes in at harvest time, when the lot is cleared or when the cold sets in. In El Tejar the most common case is the rat that travels through drains, utility boxes and boundary walls, and through the continuous attics of housing developments.

The service most requested here is bait stations: locked, anchored and labeled boxes around the outside perimeter, with scheduled bait changes. Cockroaches inside appliances

The third most common request in El Guarco is cockroaches living inside an appliance: refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, oven or equipment in a diner or office. It is almost always the German cockroach, small and light brown, drawn to motor heat and built-up grease.

Spraying does not work inside equipment: the liquid does not reach the nest and can damage the electrical parts. We work with gel bait in cracks, hinges, door seals and cable channels. Thermal fogging for cockroaches and mosquitoes

Thermal fogging turns the insecticide into a fine mist that fills the space and reaches cracks, ceilings and the underside of furniture where spraying cannot. In El Guarco it is requested mainly in two cases: cockroaches spread throughout a house, diner or storeroom, and mosquitoes in patios and gardens with standing water in gutters, wash basins and tires during the rainy season.
